SCUNTHORPE SPEEDWAY
TRAINING TRACK DETAILS Scunthorpe Speedway’s 92-metre mini track was built in 2007 and has proven to be an extremely popular addition. It’s size makes it ideal for smaller engine bikes (up to 250cc) and is perfect for introducing new riders to sliding. Riders have progressed from the mini track into all the British leagues and, at least one, has ridden in the World Team Cup whilst the Wayne Carter sessions also provide a great environment and all the necessary equipment for fans of all ages, and from all over the country, to have a speedway experience. The sessions, which need to be booked and paid for in advance can be arranged by texting Richard Hollingsworth on 07832-402167. The cost for riders with their own bikes is £32 and, for those who need to use the club’s bikes and equipment (everything is provided), it is £77. OPEN PRACTICE. TRAINING SCHOOLS AND EXPERIENCE DAYS ON SCUNTHORPE MAIN TRACK Throughout the year there are regular practices, training schools and experience days on the club’s 285-metre main track which has its own air fence. Riders of all ages, abilities and confidence levels are welcome to attend and the club take great care to ensure that riders are grouped appropriately. Initially, no licences are required, as three free day permits are available. Sessions are not only run by the club but by AMSA (Amateur Motorcycle Speedway Academy) and Wayne Carter. AMATEUR MEETINGS FOR SPEEDWAY AND NON-SPEEDWAY BIKES Ever since January 2008 the club have run regular amateur meetings for riders of all abilities. There are currently six adult classes (Open, Support and Novice Classes are ability based; Upright Open and Upright Support are two ability-based classes for upright engines and there is a class with an upper engine size limit of 160cc for riders wanting to race on a budget with any speedway bike under 160cc (125/140/150/160 etc). There are four youth classes (500cc, 250cc and two ability bases 125/150cc classes ensuring that even a raw novice has a place to start racing). In addition, there are 12 non-speedway classes for flat track bikes, pit bikes, mini bikes, inappropriate bikes (ones that aren’t designed to be raced on shale), MX bikes etc. etc. ensuring that the track is used as often as possible and by as many people as possible.
