Safety Notice – Riders, Mechanics and Machine Examiners. Front Suspension - Excess Travel.
The SCB have been made aware that in extreme circumstances, excessive downward force of the front of the motorcycle, resulting in maximum compression of the front suspension, can cause the front mudguard securing bolt to come into contact with the front tyre.
The resulting contact between the mudguard securing bolt and tyre can cause the front wheel to lock completely.
Therefore, the recommended minimum clearance between the mudguard securing bolt and front tyre, with the front suspension fully compressed, is 15 millimetres.
Should you require any further guidance or assistance regarding this, or any Technical matters, please contact the SCB Technical Advisors;
